This thread began as “Video adjustments greyed out in FCP capture” but with the suggestion from Paul Provost, I’m re-posting under a more appropriate Subject Line.

Basically, there seems to be a lack of a way to adjust video levels when capturing COMPONENT ANALOG using my Multibridge Extreme and FCP 5. The video sliders in FCP Capture and Log are greyed out. In the BMD Preference Control Panel, there is no capability for adjusting input levels. I’m well aware that levels can’t be adjusted when capturing SDI or DV, but with analog, there has to be some way to set proper input levels on capture.

    4.0G RAM
    OS 10.4.6
    QT 7.1
    FCP 5.0.4

OK, adding to my own post…

The plot thickens. If I open BMD Deck Control, then preferences, then the ‘Advanced’ button in the video settings, I see that the ‘Adjustments’ tab is greyed out also. So this problem has nothing to do with FCP per se, but rather BMD.

    So once again I ask:

HOW DOES ONE SET VIDEO INPUT LEVELS WITH A MULTIBRIDGE EXTREME?

Maybe AJA could answer this for me? >:-(

I don’t know if this will help you but my sony UVW-1800 betasp deck
has an optional external controller box for setting all of those
    attributes you speak of.

man this is so lame bmd is not responding to you on this
I just opened the system prefs on one of our dlink extreme systems and if I select analog component in the video level sliders in the proc amp tab are totally active.
I can only surmise that a different control panel is installed witht the mbe.
    Kristian, Matt anyone?

    Hi Jon,

The usual way to adjust levels is via our DeckLink preferences as this will be done via hardware. This is why the Final Cut Pro adjustments are greyed out. However, there is no Pro Amps adjustment in the Multibridge Extreme. This will be coming soon in. The estimated timeframe I’ve been given is about 3-4 weeks.

Thanks, Borjis. I’m very well aware of how to adjust output levels on my PVW-2800. But here’s my point – I SHOULD be able to adjust the levels in software (or BMD hardware) as I’m capturing the footage, instead of getting up, going across the room to change it on the betacam, then run back to look at the scopes, then go back and fine tune, check the scope, etc.

My Media 100 system had this feature from the very early days of the product (mid 90s). When capturing, you can adjust an input proc amp, and save the setting with that clip. So if you ever re-dig, you have the same levels w/o messing up your deck’s output levels.

If this isn’t possible in BMD products yet, it very well should be!

Thanks, Kristian. At least now there is some sort of reason for this craziness. And it’s not just me. 😉

I still can’t believe the MBE was released with no type of proc amp controls.

Well, let’s just hope that in 3 – 4 weeks we’ll have some kind of solution.

Hello Jon, I saw that you are a former media100 user. We just recently purchased a multibridge extreme alongside a new quad. I was wondering if i could get a little information from you as to how you have adapted your workflow from m100 to fcp. i find the hardware/audio vide settings setup to be a bit frustrating when starting a project. do you have your betaSP deck hooked up at all times? how do you monitor? how do you digitize other analog VHS or DVD material without changing a million settings? in media 100, everything as easy, i had beta going in and out component, DVD in and out thru S, VHS going in and out composite, and DV coming in through the p600 card. it was so easy! i would really like to know how youve got your fcp/bmd workflow set. thanks
