  • Component Input for Scopebox same as HD-SDI?

I took Scopebox for a spin on my last color correction job and it was great, although it worked my older 2.33 C2D Macbook Pro pretty hard. Question though

I have a Matrox MXO2 Mini feeding the MBP via Expresscard. the Mini has Component and HDMI in, not SDI. if i’m running the output of my capture card in my Mac Pro to the Component input of the Matrox, are the scopes going to be as accurate as scopes via SDI? in other words, is there anything different between the information carried on Component and the information carried over SDI (as output by Resolve or Color)?

my color jobs are primarily ProResHQ 23.98 and 29.97. i’m going to get more RED color work, but the deliverables are always ProResHQ

    thanks

If you’re comparing 4:2:2 signals from component vs hd-sdi, it should be the same. Assuming your signal path is clean all the way through. D-A on the output side, cables, and then A-D on the input side. HD-SDI is a YUV 4:2:2 signal. so you should be ok with analog component monitoring. Personally prefer a digital path as I think it’s easier to tell if something is wrong, analog is more forgiving 🙂
