  • comped afx layer visible when it shouldn’t be using c4d camera export

Hi – I’m experimenting with the exported camera from c4d within After Effects. I can export a null from c4d and then swap the Null with a comp or image of my choice and it stays locked where I want it to be in 3d space. My question is:
    1. Do comps have to be manually masked out in scenes/angles where they should not be visible ?
    2. I know there is an object buffer that could be exported from c4d and integrated as a matte but that would still involve manually keyframing the mattes usage.
    3. Is there another simpler way ?
    Any help/advice would be great.

You have to use an object buffer in conjunction with the AE solid, but there’s no keyframing involved. Basically you need to split off the face that will be covered in AE and generate an object buffer for it. Then you use the object buffer in AE as a luma matte for your footage.

    Thanks Adam…
Is there anyway to aply an object buffer to selected mesh faces or do you have to duplicate the model, delete the faces you don’t need and then apply an object buffer to this edited duplicate ?

just select the polys you want and do a Split to get an object with only those selected polys.
