Hi, I’m not sure if I’m in the right place, but I just recieved for x-mas a XL H1 camera and I want to be able to monitor footage captured from the camera on an HDTV in either program. I might want to be able to capture 4:4:4 HD-SDI video, but for the time being, it’s not a top priority. I’m also a student, so cost makes a big difference. The HDTV has component in, but all the cards I’ve seen only provide BNC out. Can anyone help me out with this. My biggest fear, whenever I’m doing anything video wise, is that my footage never looks the same on my computer screen as it does on the tv screen. Any products suggestions?

You never mention what programs. Whic programs are you referring to?

Also, at any good electronics/TV store you can get RCA to BNC adapters to enable connecting a standard consumer component cable between a card with BCN connectors to a TV with RCA inputs. Or voice versa, get a professional component cable with BNC connections and get BNC to RCA adapters.

You know how normally (this is from an avid viewpoint but the same applies to final cut) you can select a deck and anything that is in your record monitor in source/record view is shown on the monitor connected to the deck? I want to be able to do that without the deck, using my camera to put video in via firewire or the onboard HD-SDI BNC connection. If I have a DeckLink HD Pro 4:4:4 card, and the corresponding bnc to component cables, can I plug the component cables into my hdtv and the bnc cables into the card and monitor the record window from either program. My only concern is that some hardware is either FCP compatible or AVID compatible. Will the DeckLink HD Pro 4:4:4 work with both, becasue it dosen’t mention Avid in its documentation…

With a post like this, I feel for the pro tech support guys at Blackmagic.

The Blackmagic product line is not compatible with any AVID product. Neither is any other capture board from any other manufacturer. You have not mentioned what AVID product you own – it could be anything from an AVID Xpress DV to an AVID Adrenaline, to a used old AVID ABVB system – I can assume from your post that you have AVID Xpress DV or AVID Xpress Pro. The only way you can see out is with an AVID Mojo box ($1500), and this will be analog component – not HD (or analog HD). The only way to see out HD is thru a VTR. The Blackmagic card (or anyone elses card) will NEVER WORK.
