I am using FCP 7 on my Mac Book Pro and was uploading video I shot on my Sony Z7U camera last night. I shot it on SanDisk compact flash cards at 30mb/s. As I was sending it in through my SanDisk Card Reader (Firewire 800) and then my SanDisk, USB card reader something went wrong.

I was uploading into a DROBO and using a Kramer Tools Firewire 800 Hub/Repeater. As I was uploading clips I could see the thumbnails, but about ten clips would not load (got a red circle with an exclamation point) in the status bar. The seond and BIGGEST ISSUE is that the drive crashed while in the middle of uploading. Now, when I connect either SanDisk to my laptop and attempt to upload footage, EVERY thumbnail has a red circle and exclamation point in the status section!!!

I tried different cards, moved the connections around and even disconnected the Kramer reader and plugged my Drobo directly into the computer and nothing. I attempted the same thing on my Mac Pro and it worked fine.

    Help!!

Firewire hubs and repeaters aren’t reliable when it comes to video. I have heard of things like this happening before.

Do you still have the footage on the SAN DISK? Disconnect EVERYTHING but the Drobo and the reader…see if you can copy. Well, first, put the card back in the camera and see if the footage plays in the camera. If not…damage occurred on that end.

After some testing it looks like it’s the Drobo drive. I’ll call them Tuesday and hope they can help me.

    Thanks
