Commercial Questions?

PBS or a PBS affiliate?

Not too sure PBS (the network) accepts:
A) Commericals
B) Prosumer DV
C) DVD
D) Any “sync audio” recorded on the camera mic.

Absolutely they accept commercials. They’re on the end of just about every show. “This program is made possible by the donations of sponsors like…..” and then you see a few commercials from the generous sponsors. They’re the same commercials you’ll see on regular broadcast TV.

Unless it’s a reality show, I’d doubt they would accept this as well.

Of course, with an affiliate, well that all depends on that particular station. Just need to contact the station direct and ask them for the technical specs.

Thank you….I have since found out that pretty much all stations ONLY accept Beta!!! Now, I’m on the hunt to find someone with a deck that will convert minidv to beta….this is why I stick to creative editing straight to DVD, no questions asked. I appreciate your help. I knew I wouldn’t have the right equipment.

Doesn’t that sound funny? A 30sec commercial for PBS (the non-commercial TV network). 🙂
PBS (as do all networks) has specifications for formats they accept, and the standards they expect. You can get it directly from them.
They’re very detailed. As for the on-camera mic question, you should raise your own standards if you’re going
to be doing TV work (with some big exceptions, the quality expected for TV is a bit higher than for weddings).

Another reason I simply do not turn on PBS in my home.

The only time I ever see somthing I might be interested in, its full of PLEGE BREAKS!

There are plenty of places to take your finished miniDV tape and bump it up to Beta…don’t let your lack of equipment hold you back…(and DON’T take that the wrong way!)

A teacher that I had in film school has been in touch with me this evening and has the deck that I am looking for to make the transfer. Thanks Ed….I realize that. However, I’m just starting our and trying to better myself everyday. This is a favor for a small town friend of the family. I don’t plan to make a career in television editing.

The PBS affiliate near my station acquires footage on the DV format. If sponsorship money comes along with the “Enhanced Underwriting Announcement” they will make every effort to get your EUA on the air. It is possible you can take your camera to the station and dub the EUA to their format of choice.
