Commercial for local tv station, Need Help
Ok, so i do short films and all the fun stuff you can do with a camera. A company wants me to do a couple(3) commercials for Local TV broadcast. I have only done one and that was with a lot of help. What i’m asked for is to use footage they supply, add my own, and piece it all together.
What do i got?
Well i’m using there footage(previously shot), generating my own BG, and texts in AE cs3 and Premiere.
Equipment:
CUSTOM: core 2 quad core 2.4ghz, 1x80gb SATA (OS), 2x500gb SATA II (storage), xp pro x64…and moremy main question(s)are:
1.what “levels” should i set everything to for AE/Premiere Pro CS3
2. Audio..what levels as well i’ve heard -10 db, -12- and -20 db???
3. Format, i have a mini-dv (canon GL2) what are my options, hjow necessary is “beta” i have researched and they are very pricy!! especially for these lower end projects.thank you in advance to anyone who can advice anything from here, my previous commercial is here:

Black no lower than 7.5 and white no higher than 100Ire.
For Saturation, no higher than 100
You better check with the broadcaster for specs2. Audio..what levels as well i’ve heard -10 db, -12- and -20 db???
Usually, you will need 2 kinds of meters to evaluate your sound: VU and Peak.
Your sound should not go over -12 or -8 dBs PEAK and be between 0 and -7dbs on your VO meter calibrated at -20 or -183. Format, i have a mini-dv (canon GL2) what are my options, hjow necessary is “beta” i have researched and they are very pricy!! especially for these lower end projects.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response! That sounds perfect!!! I will try these settings ASAP. Is there any kind of “plugin” or any universal-type setting, such as” apply broadcast color bars at intro for seconds followed ny a tone” and if so, where do i get such things, i have heard of countdown leaders, smtp, bars, tones, etc. anything sound like what you would use as a standard for submitting to a tv station? thanks again for your help

There is no “plugin” but I’m sure you have a 75% smpte color bar to use somewhere in Premiere.
The typical sequence here in Montreal is:
09:59:00;02 Color bar w/tone
09:59:40;00 Slate with commercial number, length, prod
09:59:50;00 black
10:00:00;00 PROGRAMSome broadcasters prefer their commercials on a NON-DROP tape.
