I rendered a SD version of my daughter’s hockey state tournement hockey game. I rendered to both seperate video and audio files in order to burn DVDs with Architect. How do I now combine the files on the computer so that I can just watch it on the computer just as if I rendered it to the format that has both video and sound? Thanks.

you can render as an MPEG 2 with included audio if you choose that option from the render dialog.
    or…
you can render as an mpeg 4/mp4 for future safekeeping as well.

Thanks for the reply. All I have at this point is the the mpeg and ac3 files. What is the prefered software to go about combining them?

In DVDA you can select the audio to use….unless you are trying to view it outside of DVDA, in that case I would re-render to MPEG 2 WITH audio.

I would like to view the file with a program such as Windows Media Player. I use TsMuxer for HD video and audio muxing. I had hoped that there was a program that would be able to do this for MPEG-2 and AC3 as well. It seems quite a pain to have to re-render just to join the audio and video files.

If you don’t mind trying another media player, then check out MPC-HC (Media Player Classic Home Cinema). It can automatically pick up the AC3 audio file if you play the associated MPEG2 file. It’s a bit of a techie hacker’s program, but I like it for the lean interface and format support.

There are probably other media players that can do this but I haven’t tried any. VLC might also do this.

To guarantee playback on all media players, you’ll have to rerender as an MPEG2 video with included audio, or mux the files somehow.

OK, if I have to re-render then I guess I’ll do that. Now I have run into another problem. I had originally rendered the audio to AC3 and I am unable to place the audio back on the timeline. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Load the original project and you can then render to any format you want.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I do not have the original project which is the probelm. I have only the DVD and the 2 files that were used for DVD Architect. I have been looking for a muxing program but have not found one that will work properly. The closest thing I have found is TsMuxer but time keeping and slide bar in WMP are off, however the video and audio are in sync. I can then load the muxed file back into Vegas Pro and I suppose that I could then render this back out. I am still hoping that there is a simple way to just mux these to files into one video. Any other thoughts regarding the proper workflow at this point? Thanks.

OK, after several hours of trying various programs, good old tsMuxeR came thru again. I used M2TS muxing and it worked great. I then just changed the file type back to mpg to be technically correct. Thanks everyone for their input.

This might be a bit late to be helpful this time…

You can use the authored DVD as the source for a new project which you can then render to whatever format you want.

Just import the DVD video into Vegas (Project>Import DVD Camcorder Disc) to get the video and audio on the timeline, then you can render normally to whatever format you need.
