  • Combining Projects ?

I have discovered with Vegas 9c that the longer the project (30+minutes) the more it crashes and I have a huge platform (12gs, etc) so I am wondering how to break down the projects like a 85+ minute feature into smaller sections that can be combined later. This would make rendering time shorter and less likely to crash as well. Of course, Sony does not seem to have a clear way showing how to discover this process from the help icon. Any solutions?

    Thanks,

Combining projects is very simpel: Just create your sub projects in independent .veg files. At the end you can create a master file where you drag al the sub .veg files onto the timeline. You can look in the manual for NESTING

The advantage of this method over the possibility to just render the sub -parts of the project to a new track (Ctrl M) is that you always can adjust a sub-project and the master project file will be adjusted automaticly.

‘I have discovered with Vegas 9c that the longer the project (30+minutes) the more it crashes’

What kind of files are you working with? Are you working with Vegas 32bit or 64 bit?

I just rendered a 2 hour video on my single processor, 1 gig memory system with 9.0c. It did not crash at all on any of the renders. The last one took about 22 hours to complete, but, as noted, finished successfully. However, the source was a DV file which seems to be one of the easiest to render. A lot depends on the difficulty of handling the source file format.

    Theo:

I am using Vegas 9c (build 895) 64 bit. Still crashing for odd reasons, but I were to single out any one common cause it would be when I do not give the computer time to complete one task before doing something else on the time line. And thanks, “Nesting” answered the question as to how to bring scenes together. Again, I don’t think editors should have to learn terms like “nesting” when Sony software creators should be thinking in terms like ‘Combining scenes from other projects’. Nesting? What on earth does that have to do with combining scenes? Thankfully, guys like you scan these posts and clear up such mysteries, thanks again.
