Combining H.264 from Canon 7D and HDV from Sony V1 and achieving 25p
Hi, this forum has been very useful for me in the past but this is my first post. I would be very grateful if somebody could offer some advice on dealing with different codecs in FCPX.
I am filming a documentary using Sony HVR-V1E and Canon 7D and will be editing in FCPX. The 7D footage is shot at 1080p25 and produces H.264 files which I would normally convert to ProRes 422 for editing purposes. The V1 footage is shot at 25p which the camera stores as 1080i50. In order to achieve the proper 25p when editing V1 footage Apple has previously advised users to convert the original HDV to ProRes 422 (https://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandworkflows/index.html#chapter=2%26section=5%26tasks=true). However, this is no longer possible in FCPX – the optimized media box is greyed out because HDV can be incorporated into the timeline natively. I am unsure, however, what that means for achieving true 25p with V1 footage. Any ideas? What would happen if I converted V1 footage to ProRes 422 Proxy, which is still possible?
If I am not mistaken these are my options for the timeline:
1) Use HDV (either 1080i50 or 1080p25?) timeline with native HDV V1 footage (stored as 1080i50) and H.264 from the 7D
2) Use HDV (either 1080i50 or 1080p25?) timeline with native HDV V1 footage (stored as 1080i50) and 7D footage converted to ProRes 422.
3) Use ProRes 422 timeline with native HDV V1 footage (stored as 1080i50) and 7D footage converted to ProRes 422.
For information, I am using Macbook Pro 13” 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 with Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Would it be a good idea to convert both the V1 and 7D footage to ProRes 422 using MPEG Streamclip and then import to FCPX?
