Hi guys, I’m going to be shooting a documentary where the primary camera will be a Panasonic HVX200.

This will be a P2 workflow using the DVCPRO HD Codec.

I also Have another AVCHD camera which I will be using to get other shots on the fly,

I was wondering about any complications for combining the two codecs/footage on my Premiere CS4 timeline (PC)

If anyone has any advice on how to setup premiere to make sure this works ok I’d appreciate it muchly 🙂

One more concern, as I will be booking the equipment far away form my home-base edit station, I will probably have to log and transfer the clips from the P2 card onto a mac, and then transfer them to my hard-disk to then take back to combine with AVCHD footage on my PC…

Is this gonna be a further problem?

    Cheers,
    Grant 🙂

    Hi Grant,

You should setup a DVCPro HD timeline, and the rest should work just fine. If the resolutions don’t match, you may have to scale up or down on the AVCHD clips.

You will need the original “Contents” Folder (P2) and original AVCHD files to work in Premiere.

Are you planning on doing a rough cut in FCP?

    Thanks Vince 🙂

No rough cut 🙂 its just that I’ll be shooting in the area of college which is an hour away for me, I need to get the files from the HVX200 and as far as I’m aware you can’t just drag and drop files from the card but you have to log and transfer the clips? So when I return the camera I’d need to use the Macs closest to get the files and then hopefully transport those files back home to edit on my pc in Premiere.

unless I can drag and drop files from P2 that will work in premiere?

Either way Id need to use the camera to get access to the P2 cards…

you think the camera (panasonic HVX200 will write files to the P2 that I can use straight away?

Thanks for the reply btw, really appreciate it

You eventually have to log and transfer to get the clips into FCP, but if you aren’t editing on that system, I’d just copy the cards straight onto a hard drive, keeping the folder structure intact (copy the “contents” folder), for later import into Premiere.
