Combining different frame rates and resolutions
I accidently shot 2 scenes from a movie at 2 different frame rates and resolutions. I shot Scene 1 at 720p at 23.98 fps. I shot Scene 2 at 1080i at 29.97 fps.
What’s the best way to convert the footage to allow me to edit both scenes together without effecting the overall quality of everything? I’m editing on Final Cut Pro.
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Resolutions are mixable pretty easily, but frame rates are your issue. You will need to take the 1080i footage into compressor, use the DVCPRO HD 720p24 setting, and set the FRAME settings all to BETTER or BEST. This is something that you can set for an overnight render.

After viewing the footage on a TV it actually looks a little funky. The interlacing is gone, but there appears to be some odd jerkiness going on whenever there’s motion.
Using Compressor I applied the DVCPRO HD 720p/24 setting, and did 2 different exports, one with all the frame settings set to Best, and other with them set to Better. Both seem to work OK, but neither keeps the footage looking totally smooth.
Are there any other recommendations that can help with that? -
