    Hi,

I’m getting an artifact problem on moving objects in FCP; the objects seem to have jagged edges when in motion, that resemble the teeth of a comb. I’ve heard of this “combing” artifact before. Can someone tell me what is causing it, and how I can eliminate it? Thanks for any input. (It also appears on projects that have been output to DVD and viewed on televison, so I know it’s not just a monitor problem).

    Jon,

This sounds like an interlacing problem. You may want to try a de-interlacing plugin such as the one available from CGM (https://www.cgm-online.com/eiperle/cgm_e.html). Also, if you have After Effects, export the sequence as a QuickTime movie and de-interlace it from there.
