    Hi.
I’ve been working on a really large project in Final Cut Pro v6.0. Every now and again I get a general error message. I trash the preferences and reset them and then it works again.

This time I went to trash the preferences and the com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist seems to have disappeared. I can’t find it anywhere on my system. Also I can’t find the final cut pro data folder with the other 4 files that need to be trashed.

How do I get that back and/or how do I reset my preferences?

    Thanks.

Use Preference Manager form Digital Rebellion. Are you looking in user Library not the hard drive Library?

Thanks. I was looking in the wrong place.

When I found the data file, though, only 3 files show up there:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0 Pref
    Final Cut Pro Obj Cache
    Final Cut Pro Prof Cache

Aren’t there supposed to be 4 files that are trashed and then reset? What is the 4th file and how do I reset it?

    Thanks.

The fourth file is not inside that folder. Just use Preference Manager.

    Hi again.
I downloaded the preference manager. Is there a manual or something so I can figure out how to use it?

I tried trashing the preferences several times and I even reinstalled my Final Cut Pro but when I try to render it looks like it’s going to do it and then within a second it gives me a general error message.

    Thanks for the help.

There’s a manual in the Help menu, but what is it that you are finding difficult?

    My software:
FCS Maintenance Pack – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
FCP Versioner – Backs up Final Cut Pro projects to XML and creates changelists for each revision
    More tools…

I’ve never used it before so I’m trying to figure out how to use it. Also, wondering if it will help with the render problem I’m having.

Up until now, when I got the general error message when I tried to render I trashed the preferences and it worked. That method is not working anymore to get it to render.

    Thanks.

Actually, I found the user manual and successfully trashed all preferences. I put in the new preferences but Final Cut Pro still won’t let me render my project.

I’m rendering in the timeline for playback.

Any ideas what this general error message could be since trashing the preferences didn’t fix the problem?

    Thanks.

I think I figured out the problem. It might be a corrupted file. I deleted the last clip I imported and tried to render and it worked.

    Thanks for all your help.
