  • Colours change when importing illustrator documents into AE

    Hi all you experts 😉
I’ve always had trouble with colour changes when I import an illustrator file into after effects and usually just adjust the files in illustrator until I get what I need, but I have had enough of this unprofessional way of dealing with colours.

How do I get the colours to look exactly the same in illustrator and after effects if I open the same .ai file and put the view screen of both programmes next to each other. Is it a colour profile issue that I can fix… or something I’m missing and haven’t though of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are your illustrator files RGB? Are you using any form of color management in AE?

The Illustrator files are RGB, and we’re using “adobe RGB 1998” in illustrator. (under Edit/color setting/)

now that you asked what color profile I’m using in AE I found it in project settings. (I didn’t think you could choose) I changed it from blank to “adobe RGB 1998)

Doing this made it look more accurate, but still some of the layers didn’t look the same. I’m not sure if the layers with opacity settings in illustrator are coming through correctly. I shall do some testing, but thank you for bringing up the possibility to set the AE color settings.

    Many thanks,
