Colour Matching (i.e. sky)
Hi, I looked at a really interesting talk on Colour Grading at the Editors Lounge (https://vimeo.com/55139561). He showed how you could use Tektronic scope and RGB Parade to match colour. I can see how you could do this using Resolve RGB scopes, but this would involve flipping between shots and eyeballing the scopes. Is there a better way of doing this.
For example to match 2 sky colours, put a qualifier on both and turn on highlight (so it is the only thing showing up). you can then flip between the two shots and just see sky in the scope, which can then be matched.

How about saving a Still and splitting it with the shot you want to match? you will see the split in the scope…

Yes, work for balancing whole image but I just want to isolat on portion (such as sky) and balance that.

Flip back and forth between the new scene and a still-frame of the same shot, and that’ll give you all the reference you need. You need both scopes and a monitor you can trust to precisely balance shots. I’ve never been able to work with the built-in scopes within daVinci — I gotta have external scopes.

Why? How do the external scopes differ from the built-in ones?

The built-in scopes are too slow to react, for one. Another is I want to see the effects of the output graphics card just to make sure there’s no issues with legal levels and so on. And I’d also rather have the scopes on a separate monitor and not get in the way of the on-screen DaVinci GUI.
The Blackmagic SmartScope 4K duo will handle this job pretty well, and it’s fairly affordable (under a grand).
