colour latitude /information /depth with 5D H.264 files
Hello, I’m looking for some direction information either from a member here or if someone knows of a good article on the colour latitude / information / colour depth with Canon 5D H.264 files then being transcoded to PRO RES 422 or 422 HQ.
It’s my understanding that when one transcode to PRO RES or PRO RES HQ you are not adding colour depth, latitude or dynamic range to the original file, you are just giving yourself more control with less possibilities of artifacts and better compression.
Can someone confirm this or point me to a place where I can learn more about this topic please?

Same can be said for any Long-GOP codec converted into a better codec such as ProRes. It’s like taking an egg and placing it onto a pillow. You won’t improve the egg but you’ll also not damage it further as you might handling it directly.

Apparently, you have to set your DSLR camera to Adobe RGB colour space…
