  • colour keying with expressions?

Posted by Simon Cawthorne on January 20, 2006 at 2:25 pm

    Hi

I’m new to expressions in AE (though not entirely new to Javascript), but wanted to ask if expressions could be used for colour keying.

In essence, I see no reason why not, but wanted to see if anyone has achieved/attemtped this.

I would think if it is possible, then the quality of keying effects and mattes will be exceedingly good.

A general question, would be interested to know.

    with thanks

Expressions can’t directly access or modify pixels. So no, you can’t create a keyer using expressions.

But why do you think it would result in a better keyer than for instance Keylight?

You can acess individual pixel color values via certain plug in’s like Digital Anarchy’s Color Sampler.

My initial thinking was that one would numerically and conditionally specify pixels in a javascript routine to a very precise level of colour.

Perhaps the prospect of rotoscoping ever again weighs heavily !!!

I think that’s waht keyers do, only through a GUI?
