    Greetings,

I’m not sure if this is possible but I thought I’d ask.

We shot some footage day for night, but some light leaked through at the top of the frame that went un-noticed.

Can some one please let me know if there’s a way to make the leak less bright without changing the entire image?

the easiest way would be best as I’m not a very strong editor yet – still learning.

    Thank you,

    Mike Armstrong

Basically you need to make two different adjustment for your picture and use a mask to show what you want to show from each of them.
You can do it in FC with a mask, or with Colorista or Color that they have their own masking.

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

Just staying in FCP you can do this very simply by using two video tracks.

First, go ahead and color grade the main shot, ignoring the light leak, probably using the FCP 3 Way CC tool.

Now copy that shot and paste it directly above the original. You can also do Shift+Option Drag the original shot from Video Track 1 up to Video Track 2 to create a duplicate.

Apply the Garbage Matte, maybe the 8 point for more control, to the top video track.

Mask off the area where the leak occured and apply a feather to the matte.

Now in the 3Way CC filter that you already applied, bring the highlights down until you’re happy with how the leak looks.
