Hi, I am working in FCP with uncompressed 8 bit footage captured on a Kona 3 from HDCAM. The footage plays fine in FCP. I take the footage in AE (CS3) and do the FX needed and render the footage to uncompressed 8 bit again. When I bring the clips back into FCP I am getting a pulsing effect on the video. The Mac also has a Kona 3 in it. In one shot, with a lot of green grass, the green channel was pulsing. I looked at it on a scope and the green channel was bouncing up and down. I composited another clip and the same help true for the red channel. It seems every render from AE has this pulsing artifact in it. I have tried several things to remedy the problem but nothing seems to work.

I also noticed that the color of the clips is different than the original footage. I have tried many different project colorspace settings like “HDTV (Rec. 709) 16-235” or “HDTV (Rec. 709)” and also “none.” Each of these will alter the color of the video but nothing I select renders the footage with the EXACT color of the original clip. And on top of that there is this strange pulsing.

One thing I did notice is that if I reduce the saturation of the clip a bit in FCP (3 way CC) the pulsing stops.

HAs anyone had similar issues or know what is going on here?

    Thanks…

Do you see this pulsing in your renders in QT Player? FCP has some rules about how to handle footage when it is imported, you might look into your FCP settings and sequence settings. Alternatively, try rendering out to a different codec from AE.
