    Hi,

I’m getting a very funky artifact when I import footage from a Sony Deck into my G5 running OSX 10.4.11. I have FCP 6 and I’ve connected the deck with a Firewire. There is a preview screen on the deck which shows the footage fine. But in Log & Capture I then see a bunch of multi-colored lines that move and sound like static. This happens independently of the footage playing.

So i thought it must be the connection, something with the firewire– but i tried two different cords. Refreshing A/V devices also has no effect

    A/V Settings:
    – seq preset: dv ntsc 48khz
    – capture preset: dv ntsc 48khz
    – device control preset: Firewire ntsc
    – video playback: none (ive also tried firewire)
    – audio playback built-in output

This is what the footage looks like (and captures like)

has anyone seen this before/ know what it is?

    Thank you

Does it only do it with this tape?
Does it only do it with this deck?

i hooked up the Deck, firewire, and tape to another g5 mac, and had no problems. The tape imports fine on the similar machine– so its not the deck or the tape.

Okay. Its looking like there is a problem with firewire on your computer, but still not certain.

Do you have access to another firewire device (camera or deck) to see if it works correctly with the computer that is exhibiting the problem?

Have you tried trashing your FCP preferences? It could be something as simple as that.
