  • Color matching 1 pixel’s RGB values over time

Hi there – I am trying to match color over time of some animated text.

I’m currently having to use an effect (eg Fill) on a Live Text layer and eye drop color values from the original text over many multiple key frames.

It works OK but is very time consuming and hard to match fades etc accurately.

I was hoping to target a specific pixel (or make a 1 pixel wide cropped comp as a source) and have an expression that reads this RGB value and then applies it to the Live Text layer. This would then match the color exactly frame for frame without the need for many manual keyframes and guesswork.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The Sample Image utility is what you seek. Dan Ebberts had a tutorial for this back in the day, but it’s now included as an animation preset inside AE. Just type “Sample” in your effects panel and it should come up.
