Hey all, first time poster, long time reader.

Got a compression question that I thought you might be able to help me out with.

My friend shot a promo video for an upcoming concert and wanted me to help her smooth out some jaggies in her text. Turns out that somebody told her to compress her original FCP project to H.264 then put text and effects on it in AE. So we went back, converted the whole thing to ProRes 422, converted it to an Animation codec in AE, and compressed it for web delivery in Compressor. Jaggies eliminated.

The curious part is that with each compression, we seemed to lose a bit of saturation throughout the whole video. Kind of like somebody laid a bleach bypass filter over the entire thing. I’m assuming that color data is being erased in the codec transfer but I’d never really had a huge issue with that up until this video. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on why this is happening and how to prevent it in the future.

    Thanks a lot!
