Hey if you have After effects, you likely also have “Color Finesse.”

Karl Soule did a good prezo on this via Adobe TV.

    Here’s the link:

In addition to the one that Alex pointed out, there are more color correction/grading tutorials from Karl, as well as many from Andrew Devis here on the COW. I collected links to several here:

I would stay away from the built-in fx – the Adobe 3-way corrector is easily the worst plug-in ever devised by man, followed closely by the Fast corrector.

Red Giant Software’s Magic Bullet is a great suite of plug-ins. Their new Looks 2 plug-in has pretty much everything you’d need this side of a Resolve system for a reasonable price.

I couldn’t agree more, Lance. I’ve used Magic Bullet Looks for a while, and yes, for grading, although I don’t edit Hollywood level movies. I’ve been afraid to mention using Looks for color for fear of being attacked by purists. Just kidding….sorta.

For almost a year I used Looks by merely applying the included presets, never experimenting with the myriad of controls that the plugin comes with. Now, with Looks 2 they have added more of the control found in their grading plugin – Colorista.

[Lance Bachelder] “I would stay away from the built-in fx – the Adobe 3-way corrector is easily the worst plug-in ever devised by man”

Well I wouldn’t go that far but Adobe should take a look at the Smoke color warper or maybe have a package deal with Colorista. I think if Adobe managed to put a kick ass color corrector in Premiere with real time scopes etc. that would get a lot of people’s attention.

The CC as it is now needs some serious work.

Now with the slew of shifters from FCP to Premiere Pro, I hope Blackmagic develops a Windows version of Da Vinci Resolve too.

Magic Bullet is great tool, but I really miss things like setting different shapes of masks, tracking masks etc. But I didnt see the new version yet.
