Color Correction with Multiclip
Posted by Jesse Shelton on November 19, 2005 at 3:05 pmWhat is the best workflow for color correction using multiclip? Before making multiclip, can I drag each angle into the timeline, color correct then move back to browser?
Thanks,

November 19, 2005 at 9:37 pmThis is a hge problem when dealing with multiclip. It’s just not pratical often to color correct before editing. I just finsihed an 8 camera concert film , and will be using the XML program Traffic to add custom filter settings to specific camera angles.
To Bad FCP doesnt have a feature where you can highlight all shots from a particular camera in the timline, then just drag the CC filter to all at once.

November 19, 2005 at 10:08 pmYOU CAN! Just do your CC on the first of your clip angles then “Apple C” with the clip highlited. Then you select all the other clips from the same angle or whichever ones you would like to apply the CC to and then go “Edit>paste attributes (or Option V) >check filters box>OK. The same CC will now be applied to all the clips.

November 20, 2005 at 1:59 pmYou also can color correct a clip in the Viewer… i.e. you don’t have to put it in the timeline at all for this. If CC is the same throughout the clip, every instance of this clip will be color corrected as you put it in the timeline window.

November 20, 2005 at 7:40 pmJerry would this have to be done before you cut any segments of that clip into the timeline? In other words if you have already edited a sequence and you then want to CC a certain angle (which is usually the case) can you go back to the master clip in the viewer and CC that and have it apply to all the clips from that master or would you have to copy and paste attributes as I suggested?

November 22, 2005 at 11:14 pmYes it would. When you put a clip or part of a clip in the sequence a NEW reference file is created, and if the source clip had a filter so would the new instance of this file in the timeline… but if you add a filter to the sequence clip (one in the timeline), it will not be added to the original clip in the Browser… so it only works one way as it were.
