Hey, does anyone have an example of video color correction shot under godawful fluorescent lighting? I’m working with AE and FCP, but I usually do color in AE. Pls&Thnku everyone, you’re the best!

Hard to say without seeing an example, but I’d start with a Curves effect and a Hue/Saturation. In the curves, pull the greens out a little bit, and in the H/S push the master toward red and reduce the saturation of the greens and yellows. I haven’t got an example here, but having do color correction on fluorescent footage that’s where I’d start.

It will also depend on what the white balance was set to in your camera.

All that said, you may never get it to look great but you will probably be able to get it to look good.

    Good luck!

This old tutorial [link] might be of use. It’s from AE 5.5 (not CS5.5 which is actually 10.5), but the principles remain the same.

If you’ve got AE, you’ve also got Color Finesse [link] — it’s a full-featured color grading effect you could use instead of Curves.

Personally, I love Red Giant Software’s Colorista II [link] for color grading in AE. It’s got a much more traditional color interface than the built-in effects, and it’s very fast and flexible.

Thanks Steve, I had the white balance set so I’m ok there. The first thing I looked at was Hue/Sat and curves so it sounds like I was on a good track, but I’m gonna try the settings you suggested. Thanks again!
