Color Correction Question

All media on the timeline are “events”, not “clips”.

After color-balancing one event, you should be able to copy the event properties to other events on the timeline.

Are you trying to get media from two cameras to match? In that case, copying the color correction from one to the other will not work. Each needs to be color balanced separately. Normally this is done using the Color Correction plug-in. I supposed you could try and use the new White Balance plug-in on both and see if that gets them close.

I am trying to match clips shot on same camera same set up but a different day ( some retakes) so light are not exactly the same but as close as exact as possible. so I am just wanting to make them standardized as possible. what do you think

Try the White Balance filter and see how close you get. Otherwise you’ll need to use the three wheel Color Corrector.

For the White Balance filter, you just pick an area of the frame that’s supposed to be white. It’s pretty dead simple which is why I recommended that you try it first.

For Color Correcting, VASST has an entire training DVD dedicated to it because that is a very deep subject:

Absolute Training for Vegas+DVD, Vol. 4: Color Correction, Enhancement and Image Restoration

You will learn a lot from this DVD and if you’re like me, you’ll watch it several times and get more and more out of it each time as you work with color correcting.

Glenn Chan (who is one of the instructors on the DVD) has a tutorial on his web site that should give you a good idea of what to do:

Don, I think you want what Stephen said.

If you have a clip that you’ve color corrected, you can paste those color corrected FX on to another clip.

you can copy any FX applied on a clip by > crtl-c your FX’ed clip > on the clip you would like to paste to> right click > choose “paste event attributes” done. In fact you can keep copying and layering those FX too.

If you have many clips from the same setup, camera etc then you can color correct (or add ANY FX/Event pan-crop to)the first clip and then apply that to many clips at once…then you just have fine tune each clip…or not, depending what going for.

Also remember you can apply FX to a bin folder too, so every time you use a clip from that bin, it will contain the applied fx. Any changes you make to the bin will be reflected in all the clips that originated from there.

Copying and Pasting Event FX filters and parameters doesn’t appear to work if the source and target events belong to a group; even if it’s the same one.

Unfortunately this is the default case when you drag several media files into the timeline at the same time. I do this when I’m creating a photo slideshow, with Vegas adding an automatic one second overlap of all the images added to the timeline.

To get this to work I have to select four contiguous events; starting with the one before the copy source event, and ending with the one after the paste target event. Then I right-click and select Group/Remove From. Now I can past my FX settings into my target event.

This seems like a bug to me. I’m using Vegas Pro 9.0e, and I can’t think of any reason why FX settings should be prevented from being copied into a grouped event. Pan/Crop settings copy and paste without regard to grouping.
