  • Color Correction drops out part way through clips after export in FCP 6

Posted by Ben Knight on December 21, 2011 at 3:37 am

Hi guys, got a strange thing happening…
Using Final Cut Pro 6.06 in snow leopard.
I have my sequence in ProRes (not HQ), which I converted from H264 from a Canon 5d MK II.
I’ve applied FCP Color Corrector to most of the clips / cuts.
When i export to quicktime movie (not qt conversion), using current settings, and I don’t make self contained or recompress frames, the color correction sometimes is just not there for a few frames in certain random clips. There are no keyframes in the sequence that would make this occur. The color correction is THERE in the sequence.
What i mean is, on playback, the clip looks corrected, and suddenly, the last 2 frames are not corrected. Even happens when I go frame by frame on playback.
If i export, make self contained AND recompress all frames, the color is right… it doesn’t drop out.
But why should i have to to do this, and wait for this long export, to get the color showing correctly?
And I’m only using QT player x to view the exports.
    Any ideas?

It sounds as if “Full” may not be checked in the Render All drop-down menu. Check it, then rerender the sequence. Then export as you initially did, i.e. self contained, without checking Compress All Frames.

If the above doesn’t work, try using Render Manager to delete all renders, then rerender all.

    Hi David,
You are correct, “Full” was not checked in the Render All Dropdown menu. That alone did not fix the problem, but using the render manager to delete all renders, then re-rendering, DID fix it! At least the culprit clips are fixed. If any other similar probs pop up I’ll re-post, but for now.. Thanks! You’re a legend.

    Thanks, I like that Ben… 🙂

Today is my birthday, so it’s a nice day to be a “living” legend – so many only attain the status after they’re dead.

    Have a great holiday!

Ha ha! Yeah, we like to use the word “legend” with a bit more frequency bit down here (Down Under)…. but in this case.. well deserved! Happy Birthday.

Thank you so much for this. Your brief explanation flipped a switch in my understanding of the render menu that fixed a number of things that were not behaving as I expected.
