Color correction – After Effects Vs Premiere Pro
Hi everyone,
I’m putting together a basic showreel of some of my camera work I’ve done recently. I’m working in Premiere Pro and have all the video set out correctly but I need to do some color correction to it. I have basic knowledge of After Effects, would it be more beneficial to color correct in AE or stay in Premiere Pro?
Also, does anyone know of a good tutorial to follow for someone who has experience editing but minimal for color correction?

AE has plugins that are designed for color grading. My favorite is the Magic Bullet Suite. With Looks and Mojo you can generate instant grading by using the presets. Colorista is for a more in depth grading process.
Also, AE comes with Synthetic Apreture. Here’s some tutorials on the Cow.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Thanks Ted. What would be the best way to transfer the project into AE. Dynamic link or just import the sequences from AE directly?

I never had luck with Dynamic link, so I am always importing sequences from AE. CS5 may have fixed the issues though.

Or if you don’t want to spend $$, you can use Color Finesse which comes with AE. It’s excellent, and comes with a full compliment of scopes/waveforms.

Although, if you’re not going to go too crazy and over-the-top, you can just do your color correction in Premiere. You can’t get as in-depth as you can with Synthetic Aperture’s Color Finesse in AE, but you can get a lot of stuff done in Premiere.
