I am color correcting a short film with Avid 4.2 (Macbook Pro) trying to create a look like the movie “Single Man”. The effect I want to create is color change from desaturation to saturation, back to desaturation in the same shot. Any hints?

Sure two ways. I think 4.02 can keyframe CC. Add a color corrector (or Color Effect) to the clip; desaturate. Keyframe later and return the saturation to normal. Don’t use curves – just the saturation control.

Mark an add-edit where you want the effect to come in and go out… add the effects to the appropriate part of the shot that you want saturated/desaturated and then add a dissolve to fade between the two.
