June 1, 2009 at 2:23 pmIt’s a little bit late now, I’ve had another crazy week and haven’t been able to check the COW as often as I would like, but it is very, very worth looking into Neat Video’s noise reduction tool over at neatvideo.com. It is amazing, has a free demo that you can try out, and is only $99. I found it this weekend while looking for ways to to de-noise quite a bit of footage for a documentary that I’m helping on (Oh, the joys of pro-bono work), and I was amazed by what it could do. For that cheap, it’s definitely worth checking into. The producer wasn’t happy with just using blur or even selectively blurring channels to try to de-noise the footage, but this did the trick in no time, and looks beautiful. I don’t very often endorse plugins or software because there are many ways to do a job if you’re willing to learn the right ways to do it, but this one just found a permanent place in my toolbox.
