color clips or tracks in FINAL CUT PRO – like Walter Murch did
Posted by Mike J. on December 1, 2005 at 9:19 amHey,
I had been asking for this for years now..but I caught Walter Murches talk at the LAFCPUG on DVD tonight…and he shows a frame grab of his Final Cuc Pro timeline and the audio clips are color coded….
THE WHOLE CLIP is a specific color not just a little splotch…the whole traditional green audio clip is now red or blue or orange….
Has anyone else seen this and how can it be done???????

December 1, 2005 at 9:43 amI was at that meeting and noticed that too. Failed to ask that question though…and another, about THE CONVERSATION. What footage did they intend to shoot but couldn’t, and what did they shoot to bridge the two scenes, and what two scenes were they?
I have been wanting to color code my tracks for a while.

December 1, 2005 at 2:33 pmThe only way I know to color code is to use the label function, choosing an appropriate color.

December 1, 2005 at 4:36 pmWho does he think he is….Walter Murch or something?
Yeah… I missed the meeting so on the DVD they don’t show the Jarhead footage examples.
But there it is…. Entirely color coded tracks and I kept saying ” Somebody ask him” but it never happened.
I’m so disappointed in you guys 🙂

maybe a little post-post work in Photoshop, just to make the graphics stand out better for the presentation?

So if you want to find out how he color coded his clips and the deal with the Conversation, pay close attention to the lafcpug web site which will give info on where to buy the tickets. Event will sell out fast.https://www.lafcpug.org/macworld.html

December 1, 2005 at 8:05 pmPerhaps…
It may appear after making a frame grab and looking in photoshop…that they used LABELS but coincidentally the name of the clip and the clip/box size work out to look mostly cover.
On review I can see a fringe of orginal green audio color….BUT….perhaps NOT.
Anyway… we could really use this feature above and beyond the simple labels in FCP now.

December 2, 2005 at 1:46 pmSpeaking of colour coded tracks, how about some kind of colour on the target tracks that are connected. Especially working with multiple audio and video tracks. I’m going blind looking for that two pixel gap agianst grey between two grey target trcks.
