Premiere has the ability to generate color bars-and-tone to use for monitor calibration. It probably makes sense that AE does not, because AE can do many types of resolution, color, etc.

HOWEVER, if I create a short project in PPro2 a with bars and tone, then import it into AE, the color bars show up as a black solid. Its pretty easy to just render a short piece of video out of PPro with bars, but I wonder why a standard reference does not appear in AE.

    Or is it just me?

AE has no bars. Yes, you have to import them as a still or digital video file from somewhere else: rendered from another app or downloaded from the web.

I find I can get some pretty good color bars if you import an asset and then delete it from your hard drive. The missing asset in the Projects panel becomes color bars 🙂 Just not sure if they’re anything specific, or correct.

    Cheers

a bit late a reply but I just tried deleting the source footage and got the color bars.
With Color Finesse, Red and Magenta are way off it’s target. The only one that is ok is yellow… If I take the saturation in HSL / controls /master to 75% then it’s ok.

I have no clue what this means. Dedicating time to learn about colour correction and it’s very confusing.
