  • color banding on monitor with 3D lights

im using two 3d lights to light an object. nothing special here. it looks fine on my screen but on my monitor the shadows diffusion is creating a banding effect kinda like a gradient in illustrator or something liek that.

id imagine somebody else has had this happen so what can i do to stop that or reduce other than taking off the shadow diffusion?

    thanks for any help. J.

If you’re in AE7 or above, try going to 32 bit.

It’s in your project settings (under file).
I believe the default is still 8 bit, try 16 bit ( that should get ride of the ‘banding’ issue you’re having. Because you’re creating the very gradual color gradient, the 8 bit color processsing is having trouble recreating every shade needed.

AE is very good about upcoverting your project settings, nothing will change, but AE will warn you about effect that can’t be done with 16 bit.

    Good Luck,
