I really like color correcting stills in Photoshop with the Color Balance filter that has controls for shadows mids and highs with slider that transition between CMY and RGB. This combination always seems to work for me. Now Color Finess has excellent controls and includes this type of Color Balance control…but it’s nearly $600.

I do not want the typical RGB color balance with sliders that either add or subtract RGB values. I’m looking more for the Photoshop workflow in a simple interface. Anyone know of such a tool.

BTW, I find myself using the Nattress film effect filters for most CCOR work. I rarely need much more, except for the color balance I described above. Any leads appreciated.

the color balance filter that’s been in fcp since 1.2 might seem like the rgb filter you don’t want, but i think it’s pretty much exactly what you’re after.

The one in Photoshop will take the greens and ramp them towards magenta…in the FCP version the green slider just removes green…it is a subtle difference. Also, with the Photoshop version you can change the Highs mids and lows in one pass. In FCP you have to apply the effect for each area. Color Finesse allows for changes across the spectrum, along with a ton of other settings.

    Anyone else?

Try looking up “Final touch HD”. It’s like Color Finesse but more comprehensive. If this program can’t do what you want I’d be surprised. Of course it’s expensive! But, you do get what you pay for.

ok, i’m on it. stay tuned. what you want is to be able to select shadows, midtones, highlights or “all”, as well as not get the saturation reduction when you reduce a color but rather an increase of ther other two, is that correct?

try this. save as a text file in your plugins folder. if it works the way you expected for the entire range i’ll add the shadows, mids and highs controls.

Would love to play around with it…looks good…except I get a syntax error when loaded…it comes up as a plug just fine but I get a red box in the sequence viewer with an error that just says Syntax Error.

    Thanks,

yeah, copying and pasting always causes problem. download the plugins from my homepage instead. they work fine, both the color balance posted in this thread and the new 3-way color balance.

Hey, Matt…now those rock! The 3-way color balance along with the gamma for highs and lows and it’s working great. How long you been building plug ins for FCP?

    Thanks a million,

i’m glad to hear that you like them. i think i’ll find some use for them myself. i’ve often felt limited by the three way corrector which really only works well for very subtle corrections. if you want to remove or add even the slightest tint it’s quite hard.

i’ve been making plugins since 2000. i think i was number three to release something, after eureka and joe. 😉 i used to work in edvertising as a web designer and java programmer, with filmmaking as a hobby. then one day i decided to switch them so i started working as a filmmaker and kept the computer stuff as a hobby, in the form of fcp plugin development.
