    Hi,
I’m doing a short After Affects sequence as an intro to our new company show reel, we have a full copy of 3d assistants on AE CS3. As a starting point I looked at the digital anarchy gallery

here there is a short ident for gmtv that uses the 3d assistants to create a cube from 6 solid layers and then create a ring out of lots of these cubes. I understand that the 3d cube should be nested into new comp, then duplicated lots of times and apply 3d assistant called spheroid creator, then set to equator only, create ring with layers. these are then parented to a 3d null to control the ring’s position. And finally a 35mm cam is added to the comp to create 3d view manouvers..

however, unless I collapse the cubes in the ring, they lose their ‘3d-ness’ and if I do collapse
them it screws up their position in 3d space completely. I sort of understand this is to do do with wether the comp looks at or ignores the precomp’s 3d attributes, but cannot think of a way to get round this, any help would be greatly appreciated, – I’m now into day 3 of head scratching and I like having hair…

    Thanks in advance,
    Eugene Constable

    Thanks!
your absolutely right, its all about matching the z value of your precomp and parent comp, seems so obvious now!
now i can get on with designing..
    rgds,
    Eugene
