This applies to most Sony cameras with the multi-interface shoe. These come with a small metal piece that fits over the hotshoe to protect the pins, but also reduces the entire thing to a cold shoe. I was able to take the one on the Sony PXW-X70 off, but I’m using a Sony NXCAM HXR-NX5U, and I can’t remove the front cold/hot shoe adapter without completely destroying the shoe. Does anyone know how to take off this metal piece?

I can tell you how to take it off.

the shiny metalic insert has a lip that folds down over the heavy metal holder.

with one finger of your left hand, push the insert away from the metal holder. With your right hand and a small screwdriver lift the lip and allow it to go the opposite way.

Once you slide off the insert, it exposes a screw to allow you to remove the metal holder.

I’m not sure I understand your instructions. How do I remove the shiny metal insert?
