    Hi!

I had another client send me a mov file that will not play in Vegas Pro 10c (nor SpeedEdit, nor Sorenson Squeeze 6.5). I had install QuickTime 7.6.8 and tried install 7.5 with the same results. Quicktime will not play it.

G-spot can not tell me any information about these files.

So I’m stuck with how to get this file to work in Vegas.

Any idea what codec I would need?

    Thanks, James

James, you definitely need to ask your client where the file originally came from.

Since nothing you have will read it, my guess is that it may be from a P2 camera in which case you’ll need Raylight from DV Film to be able to read it in Vegas.
    The drawback is that it’s a $200 plugin 🙁

Another guess is that they might be DVCPROHD or DVCPRO50 files.
DV Film to the rescue again with Decoder
The good news is that’s only $45 🙂

Demo versions of both products are on the website.

If you or your client has access to someone with FCP, it can read these files natively and spit out a ProRes file which Vegas can read.
Premiere can read P2 files as well.
I’m not sure about DVCPROHD or DVCPRO50 files.

Mike, it was recorded with a Sony X1U and then he converted to mov. Luckily he sent the tape and now I’m trying to find a way to play it. Thanks, James
