Had a quick question about video codecs. On our last project we were getting files that were exported out of After Effects. They were orginally shot HD at 1920 x 1080. The outsourcing company would apply some effects to the footage and then send them to us at 768 x 448 animation codec.

I’d work on them in final cut and then just run them through compressor with the animation codec before feeding them into bink for encoding to a usuable format for us.

I’m in prep now, and trying to keep the overall video size down. Is the animation format the best way to go since the footage is treated with effects, or will another format work as well to keep a high quality file while dropping the file size? Some formats like H264 are out of the question because i don’t like the desaturation that happens with the format.

    Any suggestions are helpful.

    Thanks

Try a test with (QuickTime) PNG compression. Lossless, but usually smaller file size than the Animation codec.
