  • Codec issues between FCP anf Premiere Pro – HELP!!!

Posted by Ben Wharton on September 15, 2006 at 4:59 pm

    Hi FCP people.

Trying to transfer HDCAM greenscreen footage between two facilities. Original material digitised to 10-bit uncompressed SD and exported as QuickTime Uncompressed 10-bit mov files using what we think is the Integer (Little Endian) codec.

When our target facility receives the files they play as white, indicating a codec issue – ie the codec isn’t installed on their system.

Question: Can the codec which has been used for the sequence exports be downloaded anywhere to run on a PC Premiere Pro system so they can import the sequences to begin compositing work?

OR is it a case of having to use another codec and re-exporting the entire lot?

URGENT, please could anyone point us in the right direction. Help greatly appreciated.

    Ben

    QuickTime Uncompressed 10-bit mov

The Apple Uncompressed codecs (8 and 10 bit) are installed with Final Cut and are not available for PC.

You might want to use try Blackmagic Uncompressed Codecs, which are available for both PC and Mac.

    Hi John –

Thanks for that swift reply yesterday. I think the decision was taken to get the compositor to come to us rather than re-render all of the footage which would’ve taken a couple of days…

As far as the Blackmagic uncompressed codecs are concerned – you’re able to install them on systems WITHOUT Blackmagic hardware and go PC->Mac Mac->PC without issue, it being a choice in the QuickTime export dialogues?

Yes. They have software codec for just that reason.

Hello… I get these threads couple years late but it’s still relevant in my case.

I did quicktime seq HDV 1080i50 acquisition with a mac book pro (not uncompressed 10bit) and it used the integer (little indian) codec.

I want to use the footage in Premiere Pro on my PC. Is there a way to find the codec for Premiere Pro.

I do have a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card and following your advice I did install the soft on my mac book pro. So next time I’ll do it that way, but as for now, I’d like to find a way out without having to convert the footages.

    Thanx
