Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Codec issues

  • Posted by Daniel Goldstein on August 10, 2010 at 6:54 pm

    Hi, here’s my predicament.

I did a video for a client and I exported it as a quicktime from Final Cut Pro. I put the files on dvd and sent them to the client. It’s 5 months later and they are complaining that they just tried the video and it the codec doesn’t work with windows.

    Here’s the problem…

I no longer have the original files, computer problems, hard drive problems… they’re gone.

Is there any solution for myself and my client?

Can they watch the apple codec files on their computer with something like https://www.dvfilmstore.com/raylight-decoder.html ?

Or can I take the files that they have on cd and convert them to play for windows? If so, how?

    Thanks,
    Daniel.

Get the video back, export them from something like Quicktime, Compressor, ect. in the DV/NTSC codec.

They should have no problem viewing this codec on a PC.

Can you please give me step by step instructions on how to change the format in Compressor. I can’t seem to figure it out.

    1. Open Compressor

    2. Click the “Add File” button in the upper left, or just drag you file into the project

    3. In the settings tab, click in the quick search field and type “ntsc” then drag the DV NTSC preset onto your file above.

    4. Click the destinations tab and pick somewhere to export the file to by dragging it onto the word “source” next to your file. You can also create a new destination by clicking the “+” symbol in the upper right.

    5. Click submit.

Yes, why don’t you start by telling us what kind of codec did you used?
The solution may be easier than converting any thing.

Any “apple codec” is going to give a PC problems.

    No?

    Not really.

    Original codec, please.

    The coding reads:

    H.264, AAC, Timecode, Text
