Not everyone can read MPEG-2. The codec is usually used for DVD creation only, at the stage just before the burn. Then there are broadcast applications, and so on … but it’s meant to be used at the end of the process, for delivery, in certain situations.

Why are you rendering to MPEG-2 and what do you plan to do with the file that you render out of AE?

Do not render to MPEG for a background. The background will be used in another project, so you should use a higher-quality codec such as Animation or Photo-JPEG to avoid the quality loss when you composite the background later on. Render at full resolution and high quality.

Hi Dave, I believe that you emailed me a number of months back. I tried responding but each time my email to you bounced back. I’ve since cleared my emails. So, if you’re still interested in the FOC copy of a broadcastGEMs product, then please send me another email.

With regards to your current issues with MPEG2 renders from AE, it is important that you let us know the composition settings, its duration, audio/no audio, render and output module settings and the actual MPEG2 settings. Sounds like a lot but without those bits of info, it’s going to be difficult to know what’s the issue.

i rendered out again using mpeg2 no audio, under format options i used the main concept mpeg quality 5.

I try to import into premier and it says unsupported audio rate.

BUT, when I take an avi into premiere and exprt as an mpeg I can use it anywhere fine. THIS CONFUSES ME.

OK I figured it out. I want to render mpeg 1 out of AE not Mpeg 2. How do I do that? Premiere has mpeg 1 codec. Thats the difference. Should I keep exporting out of ae as an avi file then convert to mpeg 1, but then what do I do about when I have 70 files to export at once. I cant sit there and do each individual sequence in premiere.

Canopus Procoder or Sorenson Squeeze can be useful at times like this, giving you access to a lot of codecs and allowing you to batch process the files.

I use Compressor and Squeeze on the Mac for this sort of thing.
