CODEC ERROR When Using H.264
So I have a whole lotta .mp4 files that have an H.264 compression. Now in order to use them in FCP (5.4.1) without having to render every bit of video, I have to make the sequences with an H.264 compression.
HOWEVER, whenever I add any kind of video generators, like text, I have to render it (of course) and when I render the files, it gives me the ol’ “Codec Error” message. I know that the workaround of exporting H.264 is to export through compressor, but what workaround is there in rendering?

Is there a specific codec error message? Or does it just say “Codec error? Pretty much anything you do in H.264 will have to be rendered. It’s not a production format; it’s a delivery format.

H.264 is not an editing format, it’s a finishing format. trying to edit with it will bring up a lot of errors and issues in Final Cut Pro.

So, the H.264 format doesn’t work. Well that’s a bugger. I can convert the files to another format. Before going into the converting world, is the standard .mp4 format good for editing? Any ideal formats for editing that anyone can think of?

since they’re so highly compressed whatever you convert them too will get more compressed. But use Quicktime Pro and convert them to whatever you want.

DV, DVCPro, DVCPro HD, 8bit SD, 10bit SD, HDV, 8bit HD, 10bit HD, 4:4:4 HD, Animation. It’s quite a long list to choose from.

Look at all the options in the EASY SETUP window. Those are your editable formats.

H.264 codec are mostly used in mp4 files and are much complex at its core. So whenever you try to compress and render, sometimes it may give you error. Try Sony Vegas to do so. I prefer it because I too faced the same issue but when I changed the interface, the matter was solved. You could understand more about H.264 codec on h.264 repair.
