  • Codec-error when importing .avi-files.

    Hi there,

So I’ve got a bit of a huge problem… I’m using the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Educational for Mac for editing films, and this tme I’ve recieved the files that I need to edit in .avi-format. No problem there except that I can’t import those files into PPro CS3. Whenever I try I receive this error:

“File Import Failure: Codec missing or unavailable.”

Thus I tried downloading several avi and divX-docecs, but these don’t seem to be working because I still receive that error.
The files I’m trying to import are .avi-files from a windows-based program my teacher uses called “Let’s Edit”, and they’re in widescreen-format. Don’t know if this is important, but nevertheless I’m not able to view those files properly on my mac. I’ve tried fx. DivX-player, VLC, Flip4Mac, but none of those are able to play the clips properly (the closest I get is in VLC, but then the format is not right, that is to say, not widescreen.)

I need to edit these for my examn, so PLEASE help me quickly! I really need to solve this problem stright away…
    Thanks so much 🙂

Have you purchased Quicktime PRO ($30).
It can usually import about anything and then re-export it out to something compatible. Works for us here when we get that same error.

Eternity…don’t miss it for the world.

So I’ve been converting .mov to .avi for use in PPro and most have worked without incident using QT Pro. This last large .mov file (5GB) just won’t seem to work no matter the settings I put in. Is there a file max for QT PRo?

Not importing .mov directly to PPro since it crashes every time I attempt it.

    Thoughts?
