Anyone know of a plug-in for After Effects that allows it to import layered Photoshop files that are built in cmyk instead of rgb (so the frames can be rendered and hold all of the trapping, color breaks, etc. for the print world)? If not, how hard would it be to write one?

No and do not ask for an exporter – without AE being color calibrated to pre-press standards, it’s completely pointless to even think about it. This is much bigger than just writing a simple file I/O plugin. Just get over it, export as RGB and convert to CMYK in Photoshop.

Just get over it??? That’s not a very acceptable answer. Adobe should realize that many people are using Photoshop as well as After Effects. If a file is set up for the print world in cmyk , in which logos and things have specific colors as well as trapping but are also needed for After effects work cmyk should be an option, just as rgb is an option in Photshop and Illustrator. This issue is ESPECIALLY important for me…as a Lenticular artist, where video effects can be printed onto the back of a lenticular lens to achieve motion, morphs, 3d, and more. After Effects isn’t just for video anymore. The world of graphics is continually evolving and the software should too.

So apparently you can now bring a CMYK file into After Effects without getting an error message…But you can’t render the files out as CMYK???? What gives Adobe?
