Cluster Encoding?
Hello! As we are entering the post-FCP7 era, our office is looking at alternatives for an editing platform as we continue to work with FCP7. Premiere Pro is looking likely, as we already have it on all of our machines (we heavily rely on AE and Photoshop). A feature that we like in Compressor (when it works properly) is the ability to cluster our machines together and distribute processing among all of our machines – this has been especially helpful when compressing to h.264.
Is there a way to distribute processing with Media Encoder? Is there another encoding software that anyone would recommend?

I hope the info helps. I have not done it at this point. I have a fast machine (although not cutting edge, by any means), and it’s not been an issue.

Thanks for the information! I’d love to give it a try. We have several powerful machines in our office, so it would be nice to try. It’s made a significant difference with Compressor, anyway.

One thing to keep in mind is that AME runs at 64-bit, whereas Compressor is 32-bit. While I prefer the options that Compressor has over the somewhat limited features of AME, the time it takes to compress in AME is almost a quarter as long. When I first started using AME, my jaw was dropping at how fast things went, as I was used to using Compressor.
