Cloudy or not
Posted by Marcus Warren on August 14, 2018 at 1:42 pmThis statement was made in a recent article on Pro Video Collection: “…every editor has the Creative Cloud, no matter what NLE you use, as we all use After Effects, and Photoshop in one form or another”. Is this correct? Especially the assertion that every editor has the Creative Cloud? Every editor?

No, 100 percent of editors do not own creative cloud. A nonzero number of them may own (“own” being the operative term) older non-cloud versions of Adobe applications, but they may also have analogues to those Adobe products made by others, things like GIMP or Affinity, Apple Motion, Fusion, etc.
Each artist chooses the tools that they like best.

November 11, 2018 at 6:26 pmThis has been correct no matter what NLE you have used for the last 25 years. If you can only make cuts, you serve no need. 30 years ago, we had to be specialists to make six figures. Today, we have to specialize in making a complete show. This means after effects, sound design, etc… otherwise you/we will be replaced by kids who have done this for many years. Editing is not a left brained practice. You sell your creative eye.

November 12, 2018 at 7:56 pmThat is a funny statement that everyone has Creative Cloud. You could edit in FCP and Motion and not need Creative Cloud. Are they saying the big Hollywood films where yes Grinner, someone only does “cuts” and then passes the film onto someone else to do the graphics, color and audio have a copy of Creative Cloud? I know people who only edit and nothing more. To me that is a silly statement. That being said, I live in the corporate / TV commercial world and like Grinner said, you have to do more than just edit. The biggest production companies in my neck of the woods typically employee 5 people or less. It feels like the number of solopreneurs grows every year. You must wear multiple hats. For me, Creative Cloud is the ticket and I love the software.
