I would guess that’s because with Creative Cloud there’s really no need for “Creative Suites” anymore. It’s everything under the sun so just “one price” for everything as far as I can tell and have heard. We’ll get more clarity tomorrow hopefully when we can ask the gang.
I should have asked this today when I was talking to some of the Adobe gang on the show floor today but it slipped my mind as we were setting up. Kind of frantic the day before a show….

April 8, 2013 at 1:26 amI can appreciate what everyones going thru and Im sure we will know more tomorrow.
I think (at the risk of being redundant) my basic issue was well summed up by the other Walter. And for folks who didnt see his post, he states my big concern with the Cloud approach as far as we know it now. The first sentence is the key.
Regarding “I don’t always drop my subscriptions, but when I do, I prefer to keep something for all the money I’ve put in”
I agree.
I think that Creative Cloud is a great option to have, as it lowers the upfront cost to zero, and as I realistically don’t have the option of not upgrading from an interoperability standpoint.
I think perpetual license is a great option to have, as it carries no recurring fees.
There is a middle path. I prefer the maintenance model that companies like Autodesk and Maxon use: you buy into the software, then you pay a regular maintenance/subscription fee. As you as you’re paying, you get updates. If you stop paying, everything you have licensed to that point is still perpetually licensed. If you want another update, you’re going to have to pay retail for it, or pay extra to get back on subscription.
I think maintenance is the best of both worlds. The customer gets regular updates and doesn’t feel locked in. The developer gets a regular revenue stream. I’d love to see Adobe offer something like this.
Since they currently still offer them (even after the no boxes announce – see below) I would like the option of install disks for CS Next as well.

well that’s a bit wrong. I lack any desire for dream weaver or indesign Walter. Any price proposition that includes a dump truck of adobe software I am unlikely to ever use feels like sharp practise to me.
Adobe should not feel that they are in a position to hose any old software – that I have never used in my life – as a justification to jack up their new monthly bills to a point where they match my natural gas or electrical supply bill.
I get that adobe like money – and PPro is great – but there are fundamental limits to their behaviour.

April 8, 2013 at 4:40 pmI’m fine with non-boxed versions.
My CS 6 upgrade was a download only.
I’m NOT fine with having to renew a license every couple of months.
It was a pain in the arse with Discreet/Autodesk *smoke years ago.
I want a PERMANENT license.

April 8, 2013 at 4:42 pmI need to apologize for using the “Boxed” terminology. I only meant Perpetual license vs. cloud-software-as-a-service model.

April 8, 2013 at 5:33 pmAdobe is calling the cloud a business solution which can make us non interested in cloud non business, which is not totaly true. This can also mean that the only solution for us could be a watered down upgrade with less bells and whistles. Hope I am wrong
