I need to make a “cloud” of particles moving around randomly, sometimes bumping into each other. They’re CO2 atoms in the atmosphere. I was thinking that maybe Thinking Particles might work, or Mograph, but I’m not good enough with those modules to know exactly how to go about it. I’ll probably want some sort of collision for the atoms so that when the bump they can bounce off each other. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    Jack

Well, I seem to have come up with a solution while messing with Mograph. I used a cloner object and a random effector and animated the seed of the effector, and it’s got a pretty good effect. No collision, though, but I think I can live with that.

If you have 11.5 you can get collision by placing the MoGraph>Rigid Body tag on your cloner and use the particle>turbulence object instead of animating the random seed. You’ll want to go to project settings>mograph dynamics and set gravity to zero.

It’s also possible to do in TP, but a lot trickier.

    Thanks, Adam,

I have 11.0, but this sounds like a good reason to upgrade. I think it could be very useful in the future.
