    Hi all,
I just purchased a very good model of an umbrella from turbo squid. The model is open, and I was hoping to animate it to close. I can’t see a method to create the closed position to morph to. Do I need to painfully manipulate a ton of points to the closed position? That will take days. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.

Tough one. If you have the cloth module you could try applying cloth to the fabric while making the ribs colliders, but I doubt it would give a great result due to self-collision problems at the top of the umbrella. You could also try rigging it with bones or joints, assuming that model has a reasonable topology.

    Thanks Adam,
Joints might work, I’ll play around.

    Hey,
I tried joints, and they are starting to work well. Unfortunately it looks really good at the top of the close, but once the geometry starts folding on top of itself, it gets out of control. I’m gonna keep working on it.

Yep, I’m sure it’s tricky. I suspect you’ll want to combine the joints with at least one or two morphs to get it right.
